block trail?

On a lot of servers you can have trails. I would love to make like a block trail behind the people. is it like in Eclipse of placing blocks at like the player coordination, and do -3 y and so that it will be just down him? or is it something else?

we'll, I want to make a block trail, so that when you run or fly, under you there will be a block, and that that block will go away after several sec, and then a new block will spawn there (just like trails)

 

I can probably try doing something like this in a few hours time, any certain block to be placed behind them?
