Although the 'End of Stream' error isn't a new issue, it seems recent changes in Minecraft 1.5 has made this error occur much more frequently. In an effort to diagnose and address this issue, I'd like to start a discussion on it and provide a list of questions for people to answer that will, hopefully, help point us to what the cause is. Please note, this discussion is related to client issues only! If you encounter the End of Stream error when connecting to a Bukkit server, please help us troubleshoot this problem by answering the following questions: General System information What operating system are you running (eg: Windows 7, MacOS 10.6, Ubuntu 10.10)? Are you running a 64 bit or 32 bit version of your OS? What version of Java are you running (java -version)? How much RAM do you have on the system? What are the specs of your CPU? What video card do you have? What video card drivers are you using? What network card do you have? What network card drivers are you using? What firewall or other security software is running? Minecraft Client Information What version of Minecraft are you running? Are you running Minecraft through the browser or directly on your computer? Are you using any client mods (if so, list them and their versions)? What action were you performing in game when the error occurred? Do you still have these problems when you run Minecraft without any mods? Please only respond to this thread with relevant information. Anything else will be deleted.

Please note: we are not interested in reports regarding the End of Stream error you get when you are killed and don't hit the respawn button. This is a bug that's been in Miencraft for a while and not game breaking. We're only interested in game breaking End of Stream issues, like when you connect to a server and you get an End of Stream message, for example.
Are you interested in this if it's intermittent? Most all of my users experience the "end of stream, end of stream, bad login, bad login" every once in a while when you leave and try to rejoin...
Different issue. What you're describing is due to the DoS protection that was added a while back into Minecraft.

I am not sure if this is happens to all of my users or if this is a client/server problem (if this isn't a client please tell me so I can go post this to the other thread). I also want to get this issue fixed? I am not sure if it can get fixed, or if this thread is for that... so some direction will be appreciated I cannot answer some of these questions because idk how to check if you tell me I will give you an answer asap. Also, this problem happened to me when I died after using the /spawn command. I was using v744(or 40 whatever the recommended build was), Permissions, iChat and Essentials. I updated but the problem continue. The problem stops when I take out all of my plugins. Basically everytime I log on it sends me over to the 'Game Over' screen and if I click respawn it says Connection Lost End of Stream or if I let it be and not touch anything, it tells me Disconnected by Server Internal Server Error I host my own server, so this is where I am not sure if it is something with the program or the server? Recently I made the switch to Bukkit to be able to run server-side modifications. Before, we were having no issues with these types of crashes. Now, these crashes happen every few minutes. No specific action seems to cause it directly as the crashes are quite random. The server stays running, but the client gets the error that you see in the picture and the server console gets the flood of [SEVERE] messages. Got any ideas? EDIT: 5/15/2011: Just wanted to add some more detail. See this post I found at the official minecraft forums. I've been able to reproduce the fact that it did not happen before we made the switch to Bukkit. Only the Bukkit copy of our server with the mods installed did not work.. I even did a fresh Bukkit install without any mods and it still experienced the crashes. To do this, I copied over the world files from the original world onto the world files generated by the Bukkit server. I have 4 gig of the best ram you could buy roughly 8 months ago and had a total of 4 players with large bases and many many caves explored and experienced no lag or crashes the entire time.
Several of my users have been reporting this issue. At random times they will try to log in and get the "end of stream" error. Usually trying multiple times does not result in a change for them. I have yet to see any errors related to them not being able to log in on the console. I posted this thread to our forums, hopefully those who have been having issues will post their specs here. If there is something I can do to expedite testing and confirmation of this issue, please let me know.
It seems I have found a fix for this error. To stop getting endOfStream errors on both the client side and the server side, I started a new bukkit server, let it generate a new world on its own, copied over only the world (players included), plugins, and any backup files from the world I wanted to save, and voila. Only one client side endOfStream error since then, and now it's been over 24 hours since the last one. Even though the one error still happened, I'm considering it fixed because it hasn't happened since.

Directly Are you using any client mods (if so, list them and their versions)? no Mods, just CraftBukkit What action were you performing in game when the error occurred? Logging on Do you still have these problems when you run Minecraft without any mods? Running minecraft alone without Craftbukkit works with no problems Additional information, I dont play the game, but I am in IT. when a user logs on and gets the error there is a pause on the server sometime after the error then a bunch of space scrolls on the console and the NIC shuts down, Restarting the computer and NOT loading Craftbukkit is the only way to get the NIC back funtional. I have updated the drivers. Builds up to 688 give a different end of streem error and make no attemt to log on. the problem starts with the 15.02 V builds 689 and up cause the end of streem and locking the NIC. I have also created a completly new server (software only, same hardware) with identical results. When the Craftbukkit is not running the server can be accessed from the local internal IP or the external IP. with Craftbukkit running the server can not be accessed by internal or external clients. UPDATED: After reading through some of the forums, I loaded Bukkit on a diferent machine and had no issues with it, the posting that caught my attention was one reguarding my Network Interface Card apparently it dosnt have a problem with the minecraft .jar file, but craftbukkit somehow has an adverse interaction with it. I have not resolved this yet, as the server is in use at the moment, but we plan on adding a new NIC to it tonight at some point and re-testing the situation. when this is done I will update again with those results.
ok so this is really weird. I am running a 32 bit mac OS X leopard, so that means I cannot get java 6. so I use soylatte. I also use soylatte to start my server, and this is what I put into the start.command thing: #!/bin/bash if ["$JAVA_HOME" == ""] then JAVA_HOME=/users/nathaniel/soylatte/ echo JAVA_HOME is not set: trying default location fi PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH cd "/Users/nathaniel/desktop/server" java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar nogui it works fine with just the normal start command, like without the java stuff. also, the server starts fine and runs and says all the plugins work and everythings fine, until I try to connect, where I quickly run into the end of stream error. Is there something I did wrong with the java stuff to run it on soylatte? help, I have no clue whats going on here. PLEASE I NEED HELP

It happens when you join the server, then leave / interrupt the connection. Maybe it could be fixed by opening a new socket or whatever it uses to connect, after the user cancels the operation?
