I wish I was being childish. Being childish would imply it was in my nature to make these posts but really I am just truly upset about this all.

How long did you think this perfect idea of yours will last? No idea is ever original and no idea ever goes without being copied. It's basic Economics. The second something has control of a market, substitutes come along, either with better quality or cheaper. Therefore if PaintballCraft does everything that MCPaintball does there will be no competition. However if anyone can have Paintball why play on your server?

I can understand WHY you're upset, but I don't agree. Everyone just wants @codename_B 's plugin.

You can't keep a plugin private and expect it to NOT be copied. Eventually, someone is going to want it. And yes, if they want it, they are going to get it.

So keeping plugins private is really a waste of time, except in rare situations. They're going to be copied, and another developer is going to be doing the exact same work.

Multiple people asking multiple developers to work on multiple versions of the same plugin is the DEFINITION of inefficient.

    Argumentun ad hominem

Speedball was never designed to be a plugin for the public. This way codename_b had more freedom in his coding.

I would release the plugin to work on a server. If the plugin would function on a survival server of course. And not be a plugin for a paintball-only server.

    On another note:
If you pay a chairmaker to get your design into a chair. Aren't you owner of that chair?

Yes. But are you the owner of all the chairs in the world? No.

What are you trying to say? That the plugin is all yours? That all plugins similar to this are yours?

Making chairs and coding are slightly different, at least in my mind.

That would imply owning all plugins, which is not the issue here. I am owner of this certain design. And in this case, he has copied my design.

Edit: I used an example since I couldnt explain myself in english.

You are not the owner of this certain design. You are the "owner" of the original chair, if you will.

You are NOT the owner of any subsequent chairs that come along, whether they're similar to yours or not.

Yes, the original is yours. Any plugins that might have a similar idea are not yours.

You do not own the idea! You merely own the first plugin of it's type.

If you are building on this example. using a few notes from a song can be seen as copyright infringment.

I am not saying thats what happened here. But I am also not saying it doesnt sound like it.

Waiting for a lock, at this point.

I'm not sure where you're trying to get with these analogies.

The bottom line is that anyone can create this plugin. You might have had the first idea, but that gives you no extra rights whatsoever to further plugins. Period. End of story. Done.

Of course I do not own the idea. I never claimed this. I never claimed I owned the plugins with similar ideas.

http://puu.sh/A4GH See, you are copying it.

All I am saying here is that people should try to be original.

All I'm saying is that people will copy plugins all they want. It happens all the time and will continue to happen.

    Hi,

    I made your plugin.
The sources are available here : http://www.mediafire.com/?792t678behkfgy9
A BukkitDev project has been started here : http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/snowballer-paintball/

The plugin is currently in its core features form. It doesn't have the points system you requested, because it was very vague. A detailed, comprehensive system description would help me implement such a points system.

On the other side, it features everything else. The whole plugin description and commands are available on the BukkitDev project page. I made a BukkitDev project because I want to provide full support for your (or anyone's) future feature requests and, mostly, because this thread was locked.

I will accept feedback both on the BukkitDev project and on this thread. But please, remain civilized. I really liked warchicken's server (COD Maps!) and now Killion's, no need to remind me this is a copy.

    Regards,
    Sam.
