Build versions are no longer included, thanks to EvilSeph's request and the final team decision to do so.

Create a personal conversation with him if you want to know the full reasons behind why.

Really? That's very sad news. It really helped us out with troubleshooting having that in there.

    Isn't EvilSeph a girl though?

There is a unique identifier, based upon the git shorttag of the build, for build ID purposes.

Because git-Bukkit-0.0.0-babde35a-158 is so much easier to type than 206.

I'm sensing sarcasm here. I liked the way you had it.

It was a team decision. Any decisions made the team, the team should stand by them. You shouldn't be throwing people at me and I'm not happy about it.

    --------------------------------------

We've decided to add the build number back in but ask that people do NOT refer to them when reporting bugs as the build number is largely useless and meaningless to us.

Since I still don't have access to Bamboo, you'll have to wait for lukegb to do it. The new format will be:

    git-Bukkit-Major.minor.bugfix-changecount-sha1-b###

Please give us the full version output when reporting issues as all the information in it is useful for us to track down what broke, where and when. The build number is there to make plugin devs' lives easier as it's easier to refer to a build number for their users, I guess.

Oh, so who's referring to the other person now.

Umm, there is a link to Bugs at the top of the forums. (look up)

I JUST went to http://wiki.bukkit.org/Main_Page to get bukkit and in the Manifest.mf it doesn't tell you what version it is. This is what it says:

    Code:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Implementation-Vendor: Bukkit Team
    Implementation-Title: CraftBukkit
    Implementation-Version: git-Bukkit-0.0.0-323-g29e96e1-b241
    Specification-Vendor: Bukkit Team
    Build-Jdk: 1.6.0_22
    Built-By: bamboo
    Specification-Title: Bukkit
    Created-By: Apache Maven
    Specification-Version: unknown
    Main-Class: org.bukkit.craftbukkit.Main
    Archiver-Version: Plexus Archiver

Am i going to the wrong place to download version 188 ?

    Implementation-Version: git-Bukkit-0.0.0-323-g29e96e1-b241

    Note the 241.

Having /version is great, but what about from the CLI? It would really be helpful to have a command we could type in from the CLI to find version info. I know you claim the build number is irrelevant to know but it's crucial to plugin developers.

To find the version from the CMI just type version (without the slash)

Now from my request, when you start your server you have info on the version you have!
