Okay lets figure this nonsense out. Seems that a lot of people have been having problems with the Read Timed Out error 100% processor usage. Once the problem started, I undid all of the changes I made to my server. So, lets see if we can find a common plugin or anything that may be causing this. 16GB ram, dual 3.4ghz processor, java 7, windows 7, 64 bit Using remote toolkit wrapper, mysql for logblock and mcmmo.
I have never had this problem, but I would just like to say that I don't believe Minecraft or Bukkit was ever designed for Java 7. I completely understand that both are 100% compatible and most things are backward compatible (unless some major things that were depreciated have been removed). However, I really think you should try out Java 6 until Notch or Bukkit makes a formal announcement about J7
i have this problem, using java 7 8gb ram dedicated to the server and 8 in spare, sixcore 3.3 ghz processor win7 64bit
Again, another amazing server that should easily be able to run a large Minecraft server. Also again, a server running Java 7 and having this problem...
I tried PermissionsBukkit but it just wasn't right... they need to update it or something. Permissions is the only stable one which may sound crazy.
Try PEX. Its almost exactly the same as Permissions but much faster and has SuperPerms support. Somebody told me Read Timeout Errors are commonly caused by Permissions 3.
yes, but isnt that just a rumor? i have used permissions 3 and have had no problems until now. and is pex the same as permissions? i mean does every plugin that supports permissions support PEX? i find permissons 3. hardly inconvinient to use. and is there a converter from permissons to pex?
http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/th...switch-to-pex-how-to.33105/page-6#post-615644 That's how to switch. I only started getting read timeout errors when our users.yml had around 500 users in it. Eventually permissions stopped working altogether and I had to clean out the non-active users. Our server would always freeze with 15.6b of ram being used by the java process. Usually its only about 5% of that.
I don't know why it was decided to log EVERY user in permissions... does PEX do that? Who would need every player who joined to have a permissions user section? Absolutely stupid... especially for big servers where I have 14k just on the new map from 2 months.
I am having the same issue. It started at 1.7.3 i think. Not Sure. I also have Java 7 but it didnt do it on the most resend 1.6 RB ( I dont know the number) when i updated it started. Also i having this error alot to, when someone logs out. Code: 22:31:58 [INFO] Jasonsj10 lost connection: disconnect.quitting 22:31:58 [INFO] Connection reset I dont know if the Connection Reset is normal.. But i get the bigger errors sometimes.
i guess i will try to clean out the users yml tho this is one hell of a job, and @parker_digg im guessing it logs every player so that you can grant permissions, even when they are offline?? idk but its nice to be able to give rights to ppl signing up on forums etc.. @jason10 thats because you quit the server, we are talking about the read timed out wich crashes the whole server.
We have a website script that we just ported over to PEX that lets people sign up for rights on the forums. And we've had no errors so far.
i Just installed it, and converted the old permissions file, wich caused me a bit frustraition, but it was fairly simple so with my IQ like a 5 year old i figured it out.. and i can already say that this plugin is ALOT better, i am already in love with it.. if it had MySQL support i would just slap a ring on that finger.. I have not yet tried java 6 im gonna see if anything bad happens from now on, anyone tried java 6 tho?
Using PEX seemed to fix the problem. Been using permissions since it came out, I feel like a traitor!
Hey, What Java flags are you using ? I found too many "optimization" flags actually slowed the server, screwed garbage collection (RAM waste) and caused very high CPU usage.
Tons of read timed out errors, random spikes, general server instability that seems to be pretty poor regardless of actual load. Same hardware traditionally ran 40+ players for 12+ hours before automatic restarts were wise. I don't see much problem with those runtime params, and all I can find so far is anecdotal evidence of perms 3 being "bad." I've been using Permissions for 6+ months now, so what about the new builds suddenly made it "bad?"
I'm going to use PEX but my only problem is....i'm so used to normal "Permissions" and i'm a bit scared i'll mess something up. Can i copy my worlds "Group" permissions straight to this "Permissions" file? Or is a bit different?
First you copy groups and users into the same file like with Permissions 2.x, then you run the 3 commands from the console that convert it to the PEX permissions.yml. http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/th...switch-to-pex-how-to.33105/page-6#post-615644
Well i can now confirm that _READ_swithing to PEX did not help with the issue but its still a better plugin than perms 3.x_READ_ im guessing java 6 will be my next test
