I've been noticing a pattern ever since I came back to Minecraft. I notice the majority of mod authors are still using the 1337 RB Build and down, yet 1502 is the latest build. And for what I've been told, CraftBukkit hasn't been updated for Minecraft 1.0.0.
Then why is there builds for 1.0.0? Is everyone waiting for a RB or something to update their plugins?

Why even have an RB, when CraftBukkit HAS been updated for 1.0.0? Please, someone enlighten me.

There are dev-builds (development builds) because many of the builds have bugs, glitches or need fixing.
There will be a recommended build soon, and they need to perfect it before release. Many plugins will only update when the supported, recommended build comes out.

"RB" stands for recommended build, those other builds you see are non-recommended development builds. So while there may be a build of CraftBukkit for 1.0.0, there are none that are without significant bugs and have passed the testing that the Bukkit team deems necessary.

A build is considered more or less "stable" when it is recommended, and for plugin submissions we require that they support the latest recommended build (unless they rely on features found only in a new development build). Therefore, you will note that a good many developers wait for a RB before updating their plugin.

Can we read anywhere which bugs are left ? So I won't pick a really awful one :p

Well, if we knew all the bugs, sure.

Best bet is to pick the latest one, since it is most likely to have the least bugs (though there is a chance that there will be some new bug introduced that hasn't been noticed yet). Looking at the bug tracker is the best way to determine what bugs people think there are (though since it was only just fixed it may be incomplete at the moment), and looking at the commit log on their twitter feed or github for seeing what they have fixed (though hopefully the issues on the bug tracker will be kept tidy and marked as fixed once they are).

    And remember. REGULAR BACKUPS!

I doubt Bukkit will use any snapshots, only the current official release. The snapshots are the same as the prereleases for 1.9. Unsupported builds for people to test. Mojang isn't even guaranteeing that they will run, let alone be anywhere near stable.

Bukkit will only support builds of the server officially released as stable, which should be available from the minecraft.net download page. Currently the latest version of the server is 1.0.1, I would presume any bukkit builds will be the equivalent of that.

You can grab a build here http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/
Just replace the old craftbukkit-snapshot with the dev-build.

The problem is you need to edit the launcher for your server, so instead of it saying "craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT" it says "craftbukkit-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT"

The problem is it requiring actual brains and common sense. People are used to this one click and it works shit.

Game built by a lazy dev, server built by random guys in there free time, 30 random plugins doing 30 random things, all built by random guys in their free time...... And they wonder why it doesn't "just work".

Combine that with various levels of reading/comprehension/English speaking ability and It is a recipe for... well... These forums.

We've already addressed this issue earlier on in the thread, but we can't help you if you're unwilling to read through said instructions.

To the op the issue with people trying to keep update with all the dev builds is that its simply a waste of their effort in the long run. I wouldnt ask a dev to update his plugin 200times to keep up with the changes.

Reading the current dev builds though i have noticed that many of them are adding the features of 1.0 or improving them and at this point i wouldnt mind knowing how much they think they have left to fix. Just a estimate as to when they might be done with the 1.0 would be nice.

I dont mind waiting but i would love a rough guess as to how long ill be waiting for a rb.

And just to let you guys know, most plugins for 1337 (latest RB) work on the dev build, and even hero chat (only updated to 1060 or something) works on the dev build. (And some plugins have the option for dev builds, not sure if thats for the bukkit dev builds, but they work) and as proof I am running a server with 15 plugins on the latest dev build of bukkit and it is working mostly fine (a few glitches, like skins not working).

The dev builds for plugins are the developer's own builds for their plugin and has nothing to do with what bukkit release they are compatible with. Now then if I find a plugin is incompatible with bukkit I hunt down the dev build for it because sometimes those are compatible. I'm currently running dev builds for spout, lwc, worldedit, worldguard, and logblock. All are working well enough on 1.0.0 to not post a significant issue. In fact the only complaint we have at this point is a couple other plugins cause enchantments to disappear when we use them. That's about it. Note that we are aware of other bugs too but have been able to just overlook them as minor.

Guys, even if there's no RB out yet, CraftBukkit for 1.0.0 IS already working. We've (me and my fellow admins) done a lot of work on our test server this week, testing the latest CB builds along with the newest development versions of the plugins we use and yes, everything seems to be working just fine for us now.

For your information, this is a list of the plugins we have already gotten to work on 1.0.0:

    AntiBuild
    dynmap
    Essentials
    EssentialsGroupBridge
    EssentialsGroupManager
    EssentialsSpawn
    HeroChat
    InvTools
    Lockette
    LogBlock
    WorldBorder
    worldedit
    worldguard

Well ha ha to you Sir. Me posting was not "to show off", it was to try and shed some light to the situation for some people who still are curious as to CB's 1.0.0 maturity (what with there not being an RB for it yet). It is the idiot postings like yours that sometimes make me wonder why the plugin developers even bother with their work.
