Might be. Something similar has been attempted in Germany as well. The government tried to slip us the censorship using children as a pretense. "Censor the kiddie pr0n!"
Website should be censored using DNS redirect according to a secret list that nobody could see and which was not to be governed by democratic means. A few days later one of the christian party members said "Hey, we can't just use this for kiddie pr0n. We can use it to block anything we don't like."
There were demonstrations and petitions. Initially nobody in the government cared but then it dawned on them that there are really a lot of people opposed to this and that they might even lose a lot of votes about this so they delayed voting on that bill. A few months later it was cancelled.

I just hope something like this will happen in the USA because if that bill passes - daaamn.

The whole idea of stopping piracy is is a good idea, it is the implementation that is utter garbage. It just carpet blocks anything that could be assumed to be piracy or theft of any sort.

This was bound to happen, however I cant see it taking place though. It would criple the surface internet IMO.

I don't understand why having another petition about something else makes it a scam. I mean, they did make a difference. I sent a letter because of them.

When will they learn they cannot stop pirates even if they put more dirty internet laws up, Pirates be Pirating, Serious the more you piss of a pirate community the more they try and take down national services.

I say let people do what they want on the internet if they get away with it well then congrats to them. Imo filtering the internet is just taking away our main form of communication these days as we sure as shit don't a chance with word of mouth to stop anything any more these days.

This whole thing is just another act of control to try and control the media and the flow of information to the general public and so that dirty laundry does not get hung all over the web when certain party's don't want it too.

The US is basically (or it seems like) falling apart. I think it really boils down to the corporations paying out Congress to make silly bills like SOPA. That brings up Occupy Wall Street (which I took a part of in my own city ). I don't want to start a political debate here (there is enough of those on CNN and Fox).

If SOPA does somehow make its way to the President Obama, he stated he will Veto it. But say for the sake of conversation Congress overrides a veto with a 2/3 majority, and it passes into law. Anonymous will be on top of our government before they can say SOPA. And we all know the power Anonymous can have.

If you weren't stupid, you would have looked and noticed that Justin Bieber spoke out against the Stop Online Piracy Act on a radio program and participated with FOTF's campaign against it.

SOPA would essentially ban transformative works, allowed under current copyright law, from being created.

If the Stop Online Piracy Act was in force when Justin Bieber was starting out on Youtube singing cover songs, he could have been faced with 5 years in prison and hefty fines. He would never have gotten to where he is today.

Videos of GAMES could even be censored if, say, Activision decided they didn't want MW3 videos that weren't "official" or "approved" up because they didn't like what the person said in the video or it portrayed the game unfavorably - like a bad review, for instance.

This is one of the most dictatorial actions to ever be taken by the U.S. Government, dwarfed only in scope by the National Defense Authorization Act that was passed Thursday. (You know, the one that defines America as a 'battlefield', repeals Posse Comitatus, Habeas Corpus and allows the US Military to deploy on US soil, arrest US citizens and hold them indefinitely without charge or access to a lawyer.) I mean, hell, the NDAA was criticized by the intelligence community for being over the top..

Research before you spout at the mouth, or you will mislead others that don't have the time and they will end up with opinions that are based in fallacy.
