Why move to BukkitDev anyway? Fixing something that isn't broken?

    Hi.
I remember the first time I was going to make a Bukkit server. It was a very boring lesson and I had recently heard of Bukkit with all it's possibilities. This was at the time when BukkitDev was really new so plugins.bukkit.org was still very much in use. I remember the confusion I had with these two places and I finally gave up. I also remember the time when I made ad.fly a lot of money due to their confusing links. Because really, if you click a link named Download and there is a big button in the middle of the page saying "Download", you will click that. At least the first couple of times.
A month or two later I picked up my project again with much more success than last time. BukkitDev is from the eyes of a server owner the easiest and best place to find plugins. Bukkit is a project that focuses around server admins and along with that comes ease of use. Ease of use is BukkitDev.

    Tl;DL
Too stupid to understand ad.fly links,
Unsure which site to use, dev or plugins.
    Used BukkitDev.
    Profited.

    That is all!

Well excuse me for using IE at work. I have too many chrome windows and tabs open for work stuff that I have to use another browser for my personal stuff (company policies).

I do use FireFox. But IE9 is not that bad, and being the latest version the response "use a good browser" is not going work.

Unfortunately, IE 9 still does not conform to all web standards, hence the comments.

Regardless, I will bring that up with Curse as well.

But the others come much closer to complete conformity than IE, that's for sure.

Either I don't understand you or you don't understand me. On bukkitdev, the markuptype Safe HTML is deprecated now. I had a page in that. Also I'm seeing BBCode is present, but it probably has less functions?

Woops, sorry I miss understood you :3.
    BBCode is definitely messed up.
    I can't use:
    Code:
    [code]
    [URL]

:C. I can only use those by using the weird brackets that BukkitDev has ({}[]).

I think you should stop trying to argue your ad.fly point. I've been a member of Bukkit since January 2011, and you know how many threads of seen full of people like you complaining that BukkitDev sucks and ad.fly should be allowed? Let's just say, alot. And you know how much has changed? Lets see:
    • Ad.fly is still banned
    • People still don't like BukkitDev
Although I personally agree with everyone else and think that BukkitDev needs work, what are you going to accomplish by more complaining? There are countless threads out there talking about these issues, and the least thing you could have done is bump one of them with your thoughts.
If I didn't get my point across that way, let me end my rant with this: What gets more work done, Having the developers actually work or having them spend the day reading threads like this complaing how BukkitDev sucks and ad.fly should be allowed.
    Have a nice day,
    - tips
    P.S:
I've developed many, many plugins, must of them not in development or private at this moment, and I recieved money for my services twice, both donations. I think that just having a "Great plugin!" should be enough, if it's not then you might want to look for a different line of work (Closed-source anyone?)

I don't think any of the Curse developers read this forum ? The problem is not a programming one, it would take a day at the very most to fix all of the problems if they actually worked on it. The problem either that they are too busy with other things or that Curse is not prioritising BukkitDev for some reason, possibly because Bukkit plugins are not going to be a thing for much longer.

Essentially the situation is the same as trying to get a not very good landlord to fix something, you have to nag them until they get so bored of you that they finally get around to it. It's a shame since it creates so much bad feeling in the community, but I find it very frustrating that the problems would be so easy to fix and it seems like nobody is even looking at it.

That hurts. I have taken time out of my incredibly busy day(s) to try to get direct contact with Curse, which I have thus achieved and have setup meetings with their devs and even their CEO. Part of this is to get an understanding of what their priorities are, what is currently being worked on, and what comes next. For you to say that it "seems like nobody is even looking into it" in the very same thread I said I was looking into matters is incredibly insulting.

I've received payment once for a plugin, and never did it again; it was the worst experience of my life. People yelling at me like I should be doing stuff for them now that they have paid, badgering me about certain features and stuff not working exactly how the want it to... etc.. I never want to really have myself in that kind of binding situation, at least not here. That's a major reason that the staff as a whole doesn't want to deal with monetary issues. It's a pain in the ass.
I really don't think you should be making those kinds of comments unless you know what goes on behind the scenes (and for the record, that's not hard to figure out, just read), it's an incredibly rude thing to do. While we openly admit that BukkitDev needs improvement (hence the reason the forum system is still here), we push for these things to be updated and allow users to input their ideas to make it better. Lots of people involved with the Bukkit staff do a lot of work trying to make things the best they can, and none of those people are getting paid to do so. In any case, I think you should really reconsider your position after looking at some of the posts that have been made here and the work people have put into it.

The only feedback that has been given on the various issues that I saw was "we have had a brief meeting" and that was not recent. What was said at this meeting, is there an ETA for anything being fixed ? If there is a topic I have missed where everything was explained in more detail a link would be appreciated :)

I didn't mean you or the forum staff, I meant whoever is in charge of fixing bugs and implementing our suggestions. Since I see no reason it should take months to fix these problems, and it they have been present for a long time now so it does seem like nobody is looking into it, from a technical point of view at least.

If you want I can prefix all my posts with "in my opinion", but I thought that was implied. Maybe you could explain what does go on behind the scenes, since you are right, I have no idea ! I'm used to working on projects by myself and not as part of a company, as are the majority of the community members here. So from my point of view (and presumably a few others) it looks like things that would normally be fixed within a few hours at most are taking months to even be acknowledged. Where does that extra time come from ?

To clarify, I didn't mean the staff here are not trying to address the issues since you obviously are, I meant it seems (as in looks like from my point of view) like some quick changes are not being made in quick time. That implies that they are not being looked in to.

As I said in my response, you can clearly see what's going on from even within this thread. It's not hard to see that efforts are being made to make the system better.
I won't really comment on this because I'm not developing the system. I can tell you though that we are in the process of doing our part, and as I (and TnT) said earlier meetings are being set up and we are pushing for these issues to be fixed.
That was not the impression I got from your post...
Which is very easily disproved if you just read what is going on. Also, that does not imply that they are not being looked into, which again, should be clear by just having a little look around at what the staff are discussing.

Indeed :) But some things have taken a apparently long amount of time to change.

Again, I'm not talking about the forum staff.
