Hey guys so I am kind of stumped on this issue, though I feel like it may be because of the amount of plugins I have on the server (Note: I am just the tech, not the owner so the number is abit high due to his decisions) But we just today upgraded our server from 4GB to 8GB and still once we started getting a number of our plugins moved over, the server starts crashing on reload, occasionally a java.lang.OutOfMemory shows up, but I don't under stand how even doubling the memory we still have this issue. Luckily the RemoteToolkit plugin automatically restarts on these crashes. Im a computer science major with my main language being Java, but I know when to ask for help lol so hopefully one of you guys can help me out. Also if you can think of any plugins that could possibly combine a few of these plugins into one, that'd be great.

    Plugins:

    • SimpleBackup
    • MultiInv
    • Minequery
    • WorldEdit
    • ScheduledAnnouncer
    • VoxelSniper
    • Vault
    • Multiverse-Core (Crucial, we have separate worlds for playing style)
    • PermissionsEx
    • Questioner
    • AutoRank (Needed to promote players the longer they play)
    • WorldGuard
    • RemoteToolkitPlugin
    • InfinitePlots (Needed for our Creative World)
    • VoxelUpdate
    • MCSL
    • iConomy
    • Register
    • Permissions
    • ExplosiveSwearing
    • NoLagg
    • SkylandsPlus
    • NoCheat
    • Votifier
    • InfiniteClaims (Needed for our Creative World)
    • FalsebookCore
    • Herochat
    • MobDisguise
    • VoxelPort
    • Essentials
    • WorldBorder
    • Citizens
    • Towny (Most likely going away)
    • FalseBookBlock
    • EssentialsSpawn
    • Multiverse-NetherPortals (Nethers per World)
    • ScriptBlock
    • LWC
    • dynmap
    • dynmap-WorldGuard
    • HawkEye (Definitely need to keep this)
    • FalseBookIC
    • FalseBookExtra
    • Factions (Server Favorite, getting rid of it wouldn't go well)
    • Dynmap-Factions

Any help is appreciated, we are trying to become a high volume server, and the server owner deploys to Afghanistan on the 21st. So I wanna start getting this issue cleaned up while he is gone for 7 months, and Ill basically be running the server myself on the technical end.

You shouldn't reload your server, do restarts. Reloads should be removed from Minecraft in my opinion...

I'd be interested in seeing a paste of the actual crashes. :)

To be honest I agree with you Mikeambrose3 but cant stop some of the other Admins from doing it sometimes, and mbaxter I just did a intentional reload to cause a crash, but our host BeastNode has a really annoying web console thing, and wont download the full log file for me, and the server.log file hasn't updated yet, but as soon as I get it, Ill post it here.

Edit: Also love your plugin! Actually working on getting it back on my server, just well we had an issue where admins even with -vanish.vanishonlogin (cant remember the exact node name) were still logging in Vanished and annoyed when they couldn't chat and well couldn't figure it out lol, but I'll fix that after the whole crash thing.

Well the issues seem to have lessened now, the owner did a reload or two the other night and it didn't crash all of the time anyway, but I havent been able to nail down exact timing of reloads and server crashes. Here is a paste though of something that seems to always blow up on me during a server reload or restart. Oh Multiverse. http://pastebin.com/3buicuKp

That list has been trimmed abit, and as I said I pretty much agree, but since I'm more of the tech and not the owner its ultimately not my decision in the end. That and now its the issue of, if a user has been using something for a long time on the server, and then its taken away, how happy will they be?

just ask your user what they think they could live without and what they think is unnecessary and if they have any suggestions towards new plugins.

Narrowing down plugins to about 30 would be what i maximally would use...

@mbaxter yes it is. @hskrasek It looks like its the parent nodes that are causing this infamous crash. Have you checked that your YAML is correct?

That is something I plan on doing once we get things fully rolling, I found this server 2 weeks ago and the owner had no help and almost shut her down, so I've spent the past few weeks trying to get the server back in order, clean up permissions (some people had the * permissions that shouldn't), re-setup the website and forums, but thanks for reminding me, doing all of this while in college can be time consuming.

Gah, curses PermissionsEx!! I swear I have a love/hate relationship with that plugin, do you have any suggestions or maybe I should talk to PermissionsEx dev's. I've been looking around at all the Permissions Managers but it seems that no matter what atleast one plugin doesn't work properly for one Permissions system, and I keep reading that Bukkit's "official" permissions is kind of lacking

Also I'd like to thank all of you for the responses, its nice to see that the internet isnt entirely full of troll's

I have ran it through an online YAML checker multiple times, and everything seems to check out. Now I do notice sometimes with PermissionsEx if I add nodes through ingame commands, sometimes they wont save to the file, but I don't think thats related.

Yeah... i rarely use ingame commands for any permission plugin, simply cause i like to fiddle with the raw text where i have 100% control over it:)

I have been doing the same lately, my favorite is when I redid the permissions in correct format for YAML, and then dumped it into the SQL format (the perms were running through MySQL for a while), the server started lagging so horribly with the new perms, and then when I switched to the file backend...everything was fine. I was abit perplexed by that.
