I know craftbukkit is used for running the server but I don't get what bukkit does. I mean what is the difference?

Bukkit is a library where as craftbukkit is a wrapper for the server.

Don't blame him lol. When I first heard about Bukkit and downloaded it I was wondering why there was 2 jar files. The mod it's self is called Bukkit but the wrapper is called craftbukkit and almost documentation expresses the jar file "craftbukkit" so its not that hard to get a little confused. Its not documented in the "newb friendly install" post or within the wiki either.

So what does the bukkit library do? Is that just for plugin development?

Edit: Nvm read the faq lol. It is indeed the api for development.

Honestly it should have been named Bukkit and BukkitServer.
